Denise has held leadership positions in several health-related organizations. She is an experienced facilitator who spearheaded a 25-member Steering Committee of regional healthcare and other community leaders resulting in a strategic plan that currently provides a blueprint for developing, delivering and financing healthcare services for Greater Richmond’s uninsured. Denise holds a Master of Science in Health Evaluation Sciences from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from The College of William and Mary. She serves on the Board of Directors for Access Now and Homeward and is a graduate of Leadership Metro Richmond.![]() Amy Gillespie, RN, MSN, EdD
Nurse Leadership Advisor
Amy has been a nurse for 30 years and has held nursing leadership roles as a Nurse Manager, Director of Nursing and, most recently, as Associate Professor and Program Head for Nursing at a community college. She holds a BA in Psychology, a BSN and MSN in Nursing and a Doctorate in Education, focusing on Leadership Studies and Curriculum Design. Professional affiliations for Amy include the National League of Nursing, American Nurses’ Association, Virginia Nurses’ Association and Sigma Theta Tau. She was the recipient of a Louise Mellon Fellowship for Graduate Education. Amy is excited to be a part of the Nurse Leadership Institute because she believes the core of health care is nursing care. By building strong nursing leaders, we build a strong health care system.
