The Central Virginia Nursing Leadership Institute offers training to nurses new to management positions, with the ultimate goal of aiding nurse retention through more effective management. Studies predict a nursing shortage as a number of situations converge—such as aging Baby Boomers, the aging of the workforce itself as nurses near retirement age, and the inadequate number of new nurses joining the profession. Nurse leaders themselves say retention is as big a concern as recruitment and retirement. The program will complement internal leadership training available at most hospitals.
